Launch of LdoD Archive – Universidade de Coimbra 14/12/2017

The LdoD Archive is a collaborative digital archive of the Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa. It contains images of the autograph documents, new transcriptions of those documents and also transcriptions of four editions of the work. In addition to reading and comparing transcriptions, the LdoD Archive enables users to collaborate in creating virtual editions of the Book of Disquiet. It also includes a writing module which, in the future, will allow users to write variations based on fragments from the Book. Thus the LdoD Archive combines a representational principle with a simulation principle: the first is expressed through the representation of the history and processes of writing and editing the Book; the second is embodied in the fact that users are given the possibility of playing various roles in the literary process (reading, editing, writing), using the flexibility of the digital medium for experimenting with the Book of Disquiet as a literary machine. It was developed in the context of the FCT research project: “No Problem Has a Solution: A Digital Archive of the Book of Disquiet”.

Researcher Anabela Barreiro talks about project eSPERTo @antena2

Researcher Anabela Barreiro  speaks at Antena 2 radio station in the program “Páginas de Português” about the project eSPERTo. The project aims to develop a paraphrasing system that recognizes and generates equivalent forms of expression, providing suggestions to say or write the same thing in other words. The usefulness of eSPERTo’s paraphrastic capabilities has already been explored in two other application scenarios, namely in a dialogue (question-answering) system to increase the linguistic knowledge of an intelligent virtual agent, and in a summarization tool. eSPERTo can also become an indispensable tool to achieve high quality machine translation.

  • RAGE and the Innovation Radar Prize 2017: Celebrating the excellence of European innovators

RAGE and the Innovation Radar Prize 2017: Celebrating the excellence of European innovators

RAGE was among the 20 high potential innovations from all across Europe to make the finals of the Innovation Radar Prize, which was awarded in Budapest during the ICT Proposers Day (9 November).

The Innovation Radar Prize is the European Commission’s initiative which identifies high potential innovations from EU funded R&I programmes to champion the innovators behind them.

The potential innovations and/or innovators were identified and initially screened with the help of external innovation experts and based on objective criteria. 48 initiatives were long listed and exposed to popular voting out of several hundreds of projects screened. Over 62,500 votes were cast by the public, shortlisting the 20 finalists classified in 5 categories. RAGE obtained the largest number of votes (2.169) in the “Early stage innovation” group.

Each of the finalists pitched their innovation and presented their plans to get their innovations out of the lab and into the market. The jury was composed of a panel of investors and entrepreneurship experts.

The 2017 Innovation Radar Prize was awarded to CATEC, one of the major European research centers for drone technologies, for its advanced aerial contact drones. Congratulations to the winning team!

For the RAGE team, this was an exciting competition and a confirmation that we are going in the right direction. Ultimately, it has reinforced our commitment to transform scientific breakthroughs into innovation, delivering new value for Applied Gaming stakeholders.

Thanks to all of you who supported RAGE in this initiative!
