INESC-ID actively engages with society through science communication and outreach.

Throughout the year, INESC-ID takes part in science fairs, open days, festivals, and innovation events, where its researchers and PhD students share their work and show how computer science and electrical and computer engineering shape everyday life. These activities strengthen the connection between science and the public and are supported by the institute’s portfolio of science communication volunteers.

What We Do

Reaching the Public
Reaching the Public
We take part in open days, science fairs, and festivals aimed at general audiences. At events such as the Técnico Open Day, the Oeiras Science Festival, and the European Researchers’ Night, our researchers and volunteers present their projects to students, families, and visitors of all ages.
Engaging the Academic Community
We are a regular presence at events organised by and for students and academic community. Through stands, workshops, and demonstrations at initiatives such as SINFO, JEEC, and ELECTRODAY, we share our research with future engineers and researchers and promote early engagement with science and technology.
Engaging the Academic Community
Connecting Research with Innovation
Connecting Research with Industry and Innovation
We also participate in events that bring research closer to industry, partners, and the innovation ecosystem. At initiatives such as the Técnico Innovation Summit and Téc4Defence, we present research projects and demonstrations, showcasing the applied impact of our work and its potential for real-world use.
