INESC-ID is a private, non-profit research institute dedicated to R&D+i in computer science and electrical and computer engineering. Founded in 1999 and co-owned by Instituto Superior Técnico (51%) and INESC (49%), we hold Public Interest status and have been an Associate Laboratory of the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education since 2004. We operate from our headquarters in Lisbon and two additional campuses in Taguspark and Alameda.
With over 750 researchers, students, and staff from 26 nationalities, our work spans four Thematic Lines and ten Scientific Areas. In 2025, FCT awarded INESC-ID its highest classification of Excellent across all evaluation criteria.
