Rain or shine, INESC-ID brought science to the European Researchers’ Night
Not even the threat of tropical cyclone Gabrielle discouraged the hundreds of families and curious visitors who filled the Marina of Oeiras for another edition of the European Researchers’ Night (NEI). And last Friday, September 26, brought its reward: the announced storm turned into a perfect autumn afternoon and evening. Once again, the marina became a stage for live science, with more than 35 institutions, interactive experiments, games, conversations, and performances for all ages.

“Thinking machines are a promise or a threat?”: A presentation at the Lisbon Book Fair
Last Sunday, June 8, INESC-ID brought AI into the spotlight at the Feira do Livro Lisboa 2025 (Lisbon Book Fair 2025) as researcher Arlindo Oliveira presented his book, “Generative Artificial Intelligence”, at the Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos stage. The presentation, in a roundtable format, featured insights from fellow INESC-ID researcher Luísa Coheur and Instituto de Telecomunicações researcher Mário Figueiredo.

“Will it fly if I light a match?” — INESC-ID at the Oeiras Science Festival
"If I light a match, will it fly too?" Eliane is “seven and a half” years old and has a curious mind that shines through in her sharp questions and wide-eyed wonder. Her inquiry came after Diogo Diniz, a third-year undergraduate student in Computer Science and a volunteer at Técnico’s booth (where INESC-ID was also present), explained how rockets ascend thanks to the downward force of fire—demonstrating this with a video of a rocket launch.

The Calm before the TecStorm – INESC-ID participates in TecSummit 2025
TecSummit, a unique event focused on entrepreneurship and technology, took place on March 28, at the Técnico Innovation Center (TIC), preceding the weekend-long TecStorm’25, the largest national university-level technology competition, organised by JUNITEC. The afternoon started with a roundtable on AI Frontiers, setting the scene for the following panels, which counted with our President of the Board, Inês Lynce as a speaker, alongside Paulo Dimas (CRAI) and moderated by João Martins (NOESIS).

Computer Science, Engineering and Blockchain – INESC-ID’s participation in SINFO32
On the first day of the SINFO32, which took place from February 17 to 21, INESC-ID marked its presence during the panel “Técnico’s Computer Engineering at the Forefront of Artificial Intelligence, a collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI). INESC-ID researchers Arlindo Oliveira, Ana Teresa Freitas and Inês Lynce, under the moderation of INESC-ID’s Science Writer, Sara Sá, highlighted the department's contributions in various fields, which prompted many enthusiastic questions from the audience, particularly regarding entrepreneurship.

From theory to practice, the experience of the first Lisbon Blockchain Winter School
Experts, professors, and students—some just beginning their journey into blockchain—came together in an environment where distinctions quickly blurred. The first edition of the Lisbon Blockchain Winter School (LxBWS), organized by the BIG ERA Chair project, provided a comprehensive training experience on blockchain technology through lectures, hands-on workshops, and keynotes by leading experts. The event also promoted networking, encouraging collaboration across different levels of expertise.
